It’s not surprising that the well-known Dalmatian dog is from Croatia. Both are surrounded by hundreds of gorgeous spots, unique and full of energy. There are a myriad of spots on the map of its coastline, and with over 1,200 islands that cling to the shores, it could seem like you’re in a state of dizziness. The ease of access to islands makes it a haven for sailors for a long period of time. It’s a lesser version of Greece however the islands are more green and more compact. It is also a nation that has gone from darkness to the light of day in a brief amount of time. Therefore, the pride of people in the country is contagious and their independent streak is inspiring, should they be able to bottle their newly found joy de life, they could be onto something.
The pride they have in their land is reflected by the extent of it they have secured. Eight national parks are in Croatia with many in the inland areas and with biking and hiking routes, waterfalls, and clear water streams. The list isn’t exhaustive in Croatia however. In the Croatian island Vis there’s the expression “pomelo pomelo” meaning “slowly slowly, gradually'”. It might be small but don’t expect to cover it all. Find the perfect area for you with the Croatia trip guide.
Zagreb is the secret capital.
Zagreb is less crowded during summer when everyone is heading towards the coast. only the locals know that in winter, it is possible to ski within a half hour from this apex of the real, urban and inner Croatia. The same is true for the mountains, which can be climbed as the snow melts.
The Croatian interior
It’s not far from the coast to find national parks that have lots of downs and ups. Cycling and hiking up. Kayaking and white water rafting down. Slavonia located in the east of the country remains entirely untouristy.
Crossing borders
There are Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as Montenegro right across that border are able to quickly go places the Croatian tourism board doesn’t want you should go.
A Slavic nation
Slavonia is the region of agriculture of Croatia in the eastern part region of Croatia. It is not well-known to tourists. the region was severely damaged in the conflict in the 1990s, and is currently recovering. It is a flat area with wetlands and wineries, including Kopacki Rit, and the Nature Park Kopacki Rit at its core. The principal cities that comprise Osijek as well as Vukovar are charming and rich in culture.
The city of Dubrovnik
It’s called the “Pearl of the Adriatic’, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an ancient walled city, and is located on the ocean. What’s not to like? The crowds and cruise ships, and the cheap souvenir shops. But, go outside in the summer months and you’ll have a different story. It’s also possible to go later in the afternoon after the cruise ships have finished their damage and the waves of tourists have turned.
A meticulously organized schedule
With all the beautiful places, you could make the mistake of trying to soak the whole thing in. This is when professionally planned excursions really become their own since they’ve spent years creating the ideal itinerary for you. From exploring National parks to cycling through Istria or paddling with your family on a tiny island, there’s an attractive package for everyone.
The Rovinj
Rovinj is the heartbeat of the Istrian peninsula, with its ancient cobbled streets for market with a thriving artist’s community as well as a market selling picture postcards along with a cathedral and cycling routes that weave like webs along the coastline. Ferries also depart from Rovinj for Venice Italy which is about 2 hours away. In just 30 minutes from Pula airport, you’ll be enjoying the waters of this enchanting gem.
Cuisine
Food isn’t served on an a la carte menu but it’s Croatian. If you’re looking for Michelin Star, go elsewhere. If you’re looking for fresh seafood, fresh fish olives, local wine, and smoked hams you’ll eat it up. Literally. The majority of Dubrovnik has moved from slow to fast food to accommodate the cruise ship roll-on, roll-off culture and it’s a shame. But if you look deep, you’ll discover.
The island is booming.
Island hopping is an ideal scenario when you see the map. But in reality, it’s much more difficult, because you’ll have to return to the mainland, and then return to the island then you’ve lost a whole day. Some activities use speedboats to travel between islands, which takes just 45 mins instead of 4.5 hours.
Divide
Split is great as an important ferry port and day trip, but if you want something smaller, but much more delicious destinations, consider Trogir. The old town, which dates back to the medieval period, is actually an island and it is stunning that it is granted UNESCO World Heritage status.
Assistance
Service is still a concept that is taking off in Croatia particularly within the southern. Istria is a step ahead however, with such an influx of workers including farm workers to students to cope with summer and August madness there is a high turnover rate of staff and the mood can be a bit grumpy at times.
Talking about the past
The wars that raged in Croatia were relatively recent So, use this time to learn more about the wars. Certain locals would like to talk about these wars while others do not. However, there are some tips to follow don’t use the term “civil war” to describe them as an “independence war. It was a string of wars over territory as well as independence. Calling it a civil war won’t be well received. Also, calling it a Balkan nation, or even worse the former Yugoslavia.
